 Transport Infrastructure Investment

City of Derry Airport – Around £20M of public investment in the regional airport has seen passenger numbers rise from around 50,000 to around 440,000 per annum in the 10 years to 2008.

Peace Bridge – This iconic third bridge across the River Foyle, the Peace Bridge has been given £13,343,476 from the European Union’s PEACE III Programme and will be completed in late 2010.

“The Peace Bridge is the most significant project to be funded through the European Union’s PEACE III Programme. It symbolises the reconciliation of communities and the building of a shared society, which lie at the heart of the programme. The bridge will provide an iconic legacy to the programme, the city and the people of the North West region”. Pat Colgan, Chief Executive of SEUPB

Road investment - £21.5M of investment in local roads will be made around the city in 2010.  A new dual carriageway is currently being constructed along the A2 to improve journey times from the City Centre to the City of Derry Airport and beyond.  In addition, there are plans in place to improve key road corridors including the A5 (Dublin) and A6 (Belfast).
